Dr. Brian Smedley, VP and Director of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies Health Policy institute says health reform provides opportunities to correct health inequities that affect racial and ethnic minorities.
While this is true, I think Dr. Smedley misses another big inequity corrected by health reform: discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. No matter our economic, racial, or ethnic status, we have been treated as the insurance world's second-class citizens for way too long. Health reform changes that.
