A new report from the Commonwealth Fund finds that, due in large part to the recession, four in ten Americans are struggling to pay medical bills. In addition, 40 percent of respondents said that high costs drove them to forgo medical care, up from 29 percent in 2001. Nearly one quarter of those surveyed said that they or their spouse had lost their job in the last year.
