Checkmate

From Politico: The Democratic Senate on Friday blocked the House Republican funding bill on a 59-36 vote, intensifying a fight between the two bodies ahead of a Sept. 30 deadline to keep the government operating. The fight centers around disaster relief funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, whose coffers will dry up by early next week without additional aid. Republicans want that money to be partially offset with spending cuts to programs considered Democratic priorities. The bill - passed by the House early this morning on a 219-203 vote -- would keep the government funded through Nov. 18.

Seven days to a government shut-down. Jennifer
