More on Being an Empowered Patient
USA Today says it's important to participate in your own care, but notes that there are doctors who will resent that. At this point in my life -- after almost dying because I was being deferential to my doctors, who did not like to hear what I had to say -- I don't keep my mouth shut. However, I'm respectful of their time and expertise, and I don't bug them about little things. Having a team of doctors who appreciate my input makes all the difference. That's hard to find, but it can be done. Jennifer
