California Ballot Initiative -- Your Signatures Are Needed

The following message comes from John Metz, Executive Director of JustHealth:

For the last 17 years, on a daily basis, JustHealth has helped patients and providers deal with systemic misconduct by health insurers – and seen the devastation it has caused. It does not have to be that way after November 6, 2012.

The Health Insurer Accountability Act of 2012 (“HIAA2012”) is a proposed California ballot initiative that has been approved by the CA Attorney General to gather signatures to qualify to be placed on the ballot on November 6, 2012.

It will require health insurers to be honest and transparent in their dealings – and give everyone the legal right and ability to enforce the law if a health insurer chooses to violate these simple rules.

As a California law HIAA directly affects more than 15% of the entire healthcare system. However, HIAA also contains a “long arm” provision that extends its reach to any jurisdiction in the U.S., if the person violating any of its provisions conducts business in California or the breach affects any Californian.

We need your help, the help of everyone else who will benefit from its enactment to join us in this effort to help patients, their care providers and everyone else who deals with health insurers and the healthcare system.

When passed on November 6, 2012, it will bring the possibility of healthcare justice to everyone.

  1. I'm not clear what we can do to sign the petition. Can only CA residents sign?
