Coverage of Adult Children
We're starting to get some more info about the coverage of children to age 26 on their parents' policy. The provision takes effect 6 months after passage of the health reform bill, so September 23. The child has to be ineligible for insurance through work, and must be "dependent" on the parent. It's not clear what "dependent" means, although it clearly includes college students, and according to Huffington Post, children will not have to live with their parents to be considered "dependent." It's unclear whether the parent has to wait for the next open enrollment period to add a child to their policy. Jennifer
